Is your switchboard ready for solar?
It’s Time To Invest In Solar With Rebates and STC Incentives.
Under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme, eligible small-scale renewable energy systems are entitled to a number of small-scale technology certificates. The number of STC certificates created for Solar PV Installations started to reduce (by 6.7% every year) from Jan 2017 until it drops to zero in 2031. The sooner you install Solar Power, the more incentive (STC’s) you get. STC incentives are not means tested.

Solar Victoria is offering a rebate of up to $1,888 for solar panel (PV) system installation, for homeowners and rental properties. 2,500 rebates are available for eligible customers, twice every month.

WHY CHOOSE US?
Custom Designed For You.
No Template Systems.
At TSM Electrical & Instrumentation we understand that when it comes to Solar one size system will not be suited for everyone; various types of solar power systems are available and operate differently from one another. We take the time to measure and calculate your energy usage and needs including your budget to design and install a system to suit your property. You will not see a template system sold here.
Some examples of how a Solar PV system could easily be reduced to half its potential energy output by not being properly designed and installed:
Shading such as from dirt and leaves, clouds or fog, trees or other obstructions that can produce a shadow over your solar panels will reduce its energy output and efficiency.
Angle and Orientation can affect the energy output of the panels significantly.
For example: 2 roofs with the same panel installed but a difference in 10 degrees pitch will produce on average 20% difference in energy output.
Overall Temperature of the inverter and panels can affect the energy output if not installed correctly or in the most ideal position. Panels can experience up to a 10% loss of energy output efficiency through both the panels and the inverter in addition to reducing the life of the product.
Voltage i.e. cable losses. If the system design does not correctly calculate and design the cable lengths required for the entire installation it can experience energy losses, including heat stress and damage, reducing the lifespan and potential energy output of the system.
In a Micro-inverter system, micro-inverters are connected to each individual Solar panel controlled by the main inverter. When shading occurs, micro-inverters assure only that individual panel is affected while the rest perform to their fullest potential, meaning more solar power from the same panels. This allows a solar designer to face panels in different directions without affecting output.
String Systems can only perform as well as its lowest performing panel. If shade or leaves hinder one panel’s performance, every other panel operates at that same diminished capacity having a big impact on energy production and reducing potential savings. String systems are a more cost effective option where shading or roof space is not an issue.
TSM Electrical and Instrumentation takes all of these variables into account when custom designing your system, bringing expertise from the industrial power generation industry into the solar power generation industry.
Guarantee and Warranties.
Maximise Return on Investment.
Rates for exported solar are lower than retail electricity rates, reducing your energy consumption and shifting energy usage patterns to daylight hours is the best way to maximise your return on investment. Options to reduce energy consumption include:
Shift energy usage into times of the day when solar panels are producing the most energy – Many high-consumption appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines include timer functions that allow you to set cycles to start between noon and 4pm when the sun is highest in the sky and solar panels are producing the most energy.
Replacing appliances with more energy efficient models – Can help to reduce your everyday energy consumption. Energy efficient refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, washing machines and dryers can be beneficial to reduce energy usage. This can be easily determined by the energy rating label, the more stars an appliance has, the more energy-efficient the product is compared to other models in its category.

Hot water system upgrades – Electric hot water systems commonly take up 50% or more of your household energy usage. Hot water can be changed to heat up during daylight hours to utilise excess solar power.
LED / Lighting upgrades – Equivalent size replacements with LED lighting will provide on average 60% savings per fitting on running costs. For example: a 60W globe would only require approximately a 10W globe to produce the same amount of lights with many additional benefits such as a longer lifespan, efficiency and safety with minimal heating.
Is your switchboard ready for Solar PV Installation?
Switchboard with fuses needs upgrading.
No space, minor upgrade required.
Solar ready switchboard with 2 addittional spaces.
A switchboard upgrade will help ensure your buildings are electrically safe, protect assets and increase safety. Only a qualified electrician can make sure your switchboard is compliant and ready for solar installation.
It is important to consider the cost of any switchboard upgrades that may be required for Solar PV installation, if fuses are present or the switchboard does not have RCD protection it will require a major upgrade.
It is a requirement for Solar PV installation that your smart-meter change over to a two-way (bi-directional) meter. A two-way meter can read your consumption as well as the amount of electricity you are exporting to the grid.
